401 Parking respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we look after it and how you can reach us about it. We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
1. What we collect
We only collect what we need to run the lot and look after your booking:
- Booking requests: your name, email, phone number, booking dates, vehicle or trailer type, length, description, licence plate, insurance company, any notes, the boxes you check and your typed signature with the date you signed.
- Contact messages: your name, email, phone number (if you give it), topic and message.
- Security camera video of the lot, including people and vehicles that enter it.
- Payment records: the amount, date and the name or reference on your Interac e-Transfer or online bank payment. Online bank payments are handled by Plaid on its own secure page — we never see your online banking password or log-in. Credit card payments are handled by Square on its own secure page — we never see or store your full card number.
- Basic visitor statistics about how the website is used (such as which pages are visited). These don't identify you personally.
2. Why we collect it
We use your information to:
- Review, confirm and manage your booking.
- Contact you about your booking, extensions, overstays or anything that happens at the lot.
- Charge the right rate and process payments and refunds.
- Make sure units are licensed and insured, as our storage agreement requires.
- Keep the lot secure, and enforce our storage agreement — including dealing with abandoned units.
- Answer your questions when you contact us.
3. Security cameras
The lot is monitored by security cameras 24 hours a day to protect the vehicles and property stored there and to help prevent and investigate theft, damage and other incidents. Signs at the lot let you know cameras are in use.
Video is kept for one month and then erased or recorded over. If an incident happens, we may keep the relevant footage longer, only for as long as we need it to deal with that incident.
Only the owner and business manager of 401 Parking can view the footage. We share it only as described in section 4.
4. Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only when we need to:
- Plaid (and the banking partners it works with) or Square, when you choose to pay online or by credit card, to process your payments and refunds. Interac e-Transfers are handled by your bank and ours.
- The companies that host our website and forms, which store booking requests and messages securely on our behalf.
- Police, insurers or a towing company, when needed to deal with an incident, a crime or an abandoned unit under our storage agreement.
- Anyone else the law requires or allows us to share it with.
5. How long we keep it
We keep booking records, signed agreements and related messages for one year after your booking ends, and then securely delete them. Messages sent through our contact form that aren't linked to a booking are kept for no longer than one year.
If we need a record to settle a dispute, a claim or unpaid fees, we keep it until the matter is resolved.
6. How we protect it
Your information is stored with password-protected services, and only the people who run 401 Parking can access it. Website forms are sent over a secure (encrypted) connection. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access.
7. Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask questions about how we use it. Contact one of the people below and we'll respond within 30 days.
By booking with us or sending us a message, you agree to us using your information as described here. You can withdraw that agreement at any time, but we may not be able to hold or continue your booking without it.
If you're not satisfied with how we handle a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca).
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The newest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
